Guru Hargobind sahib ji, the father of Guru Teg Bahadur ji, was fighting a life and death battle for the 52 kings who were imprisoned in the fort of Gwalior, who had no hope of returning home from the fort of Gwalior. Even the family of these kings had given up hope that the kings would never return. It is there that Guru Hargobind  sahib ji (released from captivity) frees 52 kings from the fort and brings them back to their respective states. One of these was Raja Tara Chand. He could never forget the benevolence of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji. So, this family had great respect for Guru Sahib Ji. So, after Raja Tara Chand, his son Deep Chand was ruling the state. Suddenly Deep Chand dies. After Deep Chand, its queen Champa sends a letter to Guru Teg Bahadur ji asking him to come and pay his respects. When the letter reached Guru Teg Bahadur ji at Kiratpur Sahib, Guru Teg Bahadur ji, accompanied by some of his leading Sikhs, proceeded to perform the last rites of Deep Chand, king of Kahilur. The Guru resides there.

Other kings also come and meet Guru Teg Bahadur ji. There Rani Champa finds out that Guru Teg Bahadur ji wants to buy an area and has been searching for an area for a long time. So, Champa Rani appeared at the feet of Guru Ji and requested that Guru Ji, this whole state is due to your father. Come and share this area of ours. Whatever area you choose will be given to you as a gift. Guru Teg Bahadur  ji explained to Rani Champa that it has been the custom of the Guru’s house not to occupy any place. They were all settled in the town by buying land. We do not want any claimant to stand up later and claim that it is the property of our ancestors. So we want to buy the place at a price so that there is no quarrel tomorrow. So, Makhowal area was offered by Rani Champa. History also mentions that Makhowal was named after Makho Daint. There was a robber named Makho living in that area, which people were afraid of. So, Guru Teg Bahadur Ji made Dargah Mall (Munshi) responsible for testing the area. So, looking at this place, within the boundaries of 2 villages – village Mianpur and village Lodhipur, the high ground of village Sahode was preferred. A river of water was flowing nearby. This place is preferred among the beautiful high hills. This place is purchased in the presence of all by returning and inviting the heads of the area. The lease is purchased. Mentioned in history –

 “Jar kharid Kar pate likhaye

Lai Satgur nijj nikat rkhaye”

Village land is purchased. So, this lease is named after Mata Nanaki Ji. 500 seals are given at the request of the queen. One thing to remember is that when Guru Arjan Dev ji founded the town of Tarn Taran, the area of Tarn Taran was purchased for Rs. 1,57,000. Makhowal’s place was also very expensive but Rani Champa obeyed the Guru’s order and decided to give the place for Rs.500. This place is bought for Rs.500. Now after this no other claimant can stand up and say that this is our place. This was the foresight of Guru Teg Bahadur ji. So, the day of laying the foundation stone was laid on June 19 so that the sangat of the area could reach village Sahota on June 19. The construction of the new town was started by laying the foundation stone. So, in the next series No. 38 we will hear how Chakk Nanaki Nagar came to be.
