In this series we will hear that Guru Teg Bahadur Ji leaves Chakk Nanaki Nagar for Dharam Prachar Yatra by distributing duties to all Sikhs

Chakk Nanaki Nagar, now known as Anandpur Sahib, was founded by Guru Teg Bahadur ji. Guru Teg Bahadur ji started his missionary tour here by handing over the responsibility to some prominent Sikhs. The real reason for this was to revive the Sikh Sangat which Guru Nanak  Dev ji had established as far as Bengal and Assam. There were many places where Guru Nanak Dev Ji went. Guru Sahib Ji had visited the shrines and connected those forgotten people with Naam Bani. Guru Teg Bahadur ji also wanted to visit those shrines. Why would Guru Sahib Ji go on pilgrimage? Gurbani says:

 “Tirath Udam Satguru Kia

Sabh lok udharan aradha”

The real reason was to connect the people with the truth by visiting those shrines. So, Guru Sahib Ji on his departure assigned duties to the Sikhs, in which the Chief Diwan Bhai Sati Das Ji was entrusted with the task of the entire pilgrimage. Bhai Dayala ji appointed the leader of the Guru’s family and other Sikh women. Bhai Dayala ji’s duty was to provide all the facilities to the Guru’s family and other Sikh women so that they would not face any obstacle while walking along the way. Bhai Sati Das Ji was given a great responsibility because he was a great scholar.

 “Dhur ki bani Ayi

Tin sagali chint mitai “

It was the duty of Sati Das Ji that wherever Guru Sahib Ji uttered any word of Gurbani, Sati Das Ji would transcribe those words in written form as well as in Persian language. Bhai Sati Das ji’s greatest responsibility was to carry it all the way from where the entire Bani of Guru Teg Bahadur ji was to be preserved. It is written in the genealogy of Kesar Singh Chibber-

  “Baani Jo sahib kran uchar

So sati das nit kre faarsi akhraa me utaar”

Mata Gujri Ji’s brother Kirpal Chand Ji, who was the uncle of Guru Gobind Singh ji, is known in the Sikh world today as Mama Kirpal Chand Ji. Their duty was to invest whatever was the Maya of Dasvandh or Golak in all public welfare activities. All this responsibility was with Mama Kirpal Chand Ji. According to Dr. Trilochan Singh and Principal Seva Singh, the entire cost of Guru Sahib’s visit was borne by the Sangat of Dhaka and Patna. It was the duty of some chief Sikhs to find suitable places to stay and make arrangements to stay there. Especially where Guru Sahib’s party had to stay, there must have been a water facility. The kirtanyie, the head of the Guru’s house, were always with him so that wherever there was a stage, he could go to distant villages and preach Sikhism. So, this whole plan was of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji. All arrangements had already been made by Guru Sahib Ji to go on the route of the preaching tour which was to start from Chakk Nanaki Sahib so as not to face any difficulty while preaching. One of the biggest hurdles is where to spend the four months. When the rainy days come, in which area will the Sangat and Guru Sahib Ji be then? This whole path was paved by Guru Sahib Ji himself. So, in the next series we will visit the places where Guru Sahib Ji made the first stop from Chakk Nanaki and what service Guru Sahib Ji did there.
