Guru Tegh Bahadur ji had established the town of Chakk Nanaki on the land of Makhoval in the name of his mother. The construction of this town began in a very beautiful way. He lived in a beautiful city. Beautiful houses, temples and mandirs began to be built. Shops began to be built. Arriving here, Peer Musa Ropari questioned that I had never seen this town inhabited before. Who is inhabiting this city? When a Sikh told about Guru Teg Bahadur Ji that the idol of Bairag Guru Teg Bahadur Ji is inhabiting this town.He astonishingly said “I can’t believe how this can happen and why the Bairagis need to get caught up in these marriages.”
He reached the place where Guru Teg Bahadur ji was constructing the city. He questioned Guru Teg Bahadur ji-
“Es Parvirt meh rida tumaro
Gan Sewak Kim paar utaaro”
Meaning Guru Ji, the pir fakirs are not in a position to do worldly work to establish this city and how will you save the Sevaks while doing this worldly work. Guru Teg Bahadur Ji replied Musa Ropari that Peer Ji, Grihast Ashram is the highest ashram. By walking on the Grihast Marg, by keeping one’s life high and pure and by living in one’s family and Grihast Marg one becomes Jivan Mukt.
Peer Musa Ropari said that there is no harmony between the world and Peer Fakirs. The householder on the one hand and the pir (devotee) on the other cannot be reconciled. Guru Sahib Ji insisted Peer Ji to stay there for a few days. Your delusion will go away and you will get the answers to all these things while you are here. So, arrangements are made for Peer Ji to stay. It is evening. sangat from all over the town starts arriving at the Guru Darbar. Sodar is recited. God’s Aarti is sung. The Bani is recited. The sangat enjoy chanting the True Name of God. Then all the sangat sit in a pangat and eat langar. Due to the large size of the town, langars are set up far and wide. It is night. The voices of Sohila Sahib come from the houses. The night is passing. The next Amrit Vela starts. Musa Ropari sees that the laborers are meditating on God at the time of Amrit vela. Bathing, reciting the Bani. The Guru comes to the Darbar and sees that the sangat is chanting Asa di Vaar. Kirtan is performed. Deg of Karah prasad is prepared. The Langars are set up for the sangat. Wage earners, laborers and moneylenders all sit in the same line and enjoy Prasada. Welcome each other. Spoken with respect. Seeing all this, Peer Musa Ropari came to the court of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji and said, “Guru Ji,” I don’t want to be a peer any more. Please make me your Sikh too. I too will make my life successful by living in your city and walking on the path of learning.”
So, the kirtanis of the Guru’s house also went to preach in far-flung countries where they attend the Guru’s house in the morning and in the evening. Bhai Gulab Rai Ji, Bhai Raja Ji, Bhai Behl Ji, Bhai Mansood Ji, Bhai Haribans Ji, where they used to perform Kirtan, they also do Kirat. So, from Bakala comes Makhan Shah Lubana. Makhan Shah Lubana was also instrumental in establishing the town of Chak Nanaki. He was still with the Guru when the land was purchased. Makhan Shah Lubana goes to his business with the permission of Guru Ji. Guru Teg Bahadur ji made up his mind to make the next missionary visit. Some prominent Sikhs – Bhai Bhago Ji, Bhai Rama Ji, Bhai Sadhu Multani Ji, Bhai Bahlo K Mukhi Des Raj ji and some other Sikhs were given the responsibility of establishing Chakk Nanaki Nagar. Gathering the Sikhs, the chief said that whatever dasvandh maya comes, the work of establishing this town is to be done, wells are to be dug. All this responsibility will be yours and now we go on a Dharam Prachar Yatra.
