In this series we will learn about Guru Harkrishan Ji’s passing away and his words to Gurtagaddi

Guru Harkrishan ji himself treated the people in Delhi in 1664 AD when the dreaded disease of smallpox had spread. He had delighted them with his vision. Here Guru Sahib had also made a pool of water from which the sick were cured by drinking water. At this time Guru Harkrishan ji also fell victim to this disease. Guru Sahib had been severely attacked by smallpox. Guru ji ascended the throne in a state of illness. Aurangzeb also wanted to meet the Guru ji at this time but the Guru ji refused. Guru Harkrishan Ji said this word to his mother 5 days ago-

“Hmra Turkan So Mel Na Hoe,

Jo Har Bhavai Hovai Soe.

Paanch diwas Em Beetat Bhyea,

Tab Mata ji ko Satgur Kahyea.

Ab Hum Param Dhaam Ko Jaavai,

Tan Taj Joti Jot Smavai”

These words are written in Mahima Prakash that five days ago when Guru Sahib spoke of passing away, this had a profound effect on the sangats and Sikhs of Delhi. At that time some close Sikhs came to Guru Harkrishan Ji Said

“Guru Sahib, what do you mean by that?”

One of them, a Sikh, also requested: “Guru Sahib, if you leave, who will take us?”

Guru Sahib ordered the material of Guruship. This is recorded in the Bhatt Vahis.

The Bhatt Vahi Bhadson Thanesar mentions what Guru Harkrishan ji said at that time. Bhatt has written in the books-

” Guru Har Krishan Ji Mahla VIII

Son of Guru Har Rai Ji

 Sammat Satra Se 21,

 Masse Sudi Chaudas,

Budhwar ke dehu

Deewan Dargah Mall Se Bachan Keea,

Gureyai Ki Saamgri Le Aao.

Hukam paaye Deewan ji Le Aye,

Satgura is Haath Chudaye.

Teen dfaa daai Bhuja Hilaye,

Dheemi Awaz Se Kaha.

Ese Bkala Nagri Me Le Jana,

Paanch pese Nleeyer Baba Teg Bahadur ke Aage raakh,

Hmari taraf Se Mastak Tek dena”

It was now clear who Baba was. Guru Harkrishan Ji himself could not get up. Guru Sahib circumambulated his hand three times on the plate of Gureyai and made a speech to the sangat.

 “Baba Base Gram Bakale,

Ban Gur Sangat Sakal Smaale. “

Guru Sahib said – “Baba Bakale”. Meaning now the next Guru after us will be at Baba Bakala. The Guru recited this last verse of Gurbani while lying on the bed.

“Jo tudh bhave sai bhali kar,

Tu sada Slaamat Nirankar”

After reciting this verse of Gurbani, Guru Ji passed away.

“Jyoti Jyoti Rali, Sampuran Thiya Ram”

It is recorded in our ancient sources that Guru Tegh Bahadur ji was given the Guruship at Baba Bakale.

The author of Bhai Kesar Singh Bansavali Nama writes-

“Vakat Chlaane Sikha Kiti Ardaas,

Greeb Niwaz Sangat Chodi Kis Paas”

At that time he spoke – “Baba Bakale”

Gurbilas Patshahi Dasviin Krit Sukkha Singh Ji (Writer)

” Sangat kahi prabhu jagan natha,

 baba sahi bakale aahai.

Yo Keh Kar Satgur Bach Aad Nij,

Sukh bheetr gye smaaye”

So, Guru Ji gave the last Darshan  to the entire Sangat and left his body in the lap of his Mata Krishan Kaur Ji (also called Mata Sulakhni Ji). Gurdwra Bangla Sahib stands today in the bungalow where Guru Harkrishan ji lived. The sangats today drink water from the tub from which the patients were treated. Gurudwara Bala Sahib is adorned where Guru Harkrishan ji was cremated.

So, in the next series No. 20 we will talk about Baba Bakale, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s enthronement and shooting at him. How many months after Guru Harkrishan Sahib Ji the Guruship remained vacant, we will also mention this in the next series. So don’t forget to see ….
