In this series we will hear about the childhood of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji that the nature of Guru Sahib Ji was discovered at an early age

Guru Hargobind sahib  ji names the child Teg Bahadur ji. Many scholars have abandoned Guru Ji’s name in many texts, But in most of the Granths we read that Guru ji was named Teg Bahadur in his childhood. Of all the Gurus from Guru Nanak Sahib to Guru Gobind Singh ji, only Guru Teg Bahadur ji is named in Persian. Teg means ‘sword’ or ‘kirpan’

It is written in Guru Granth Sahib Ji-

“Ja tudh bhave teg vagavahai

Sir mundi kat jawai”

“Deg teg jag mah dou chale”

Along with Teg, Guru Sahib Ji is also brave. Guru Sahib is pampered a lot in childhood. Guru Sahib’s elder sister Viro ji loves her brother very much. She also plays them in the cradle. Guru Sahib never cried and asked for milk in his childhood. One day Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji was sitting on his throne and was preaching to the sangat when Teg Bahadur Ji came to play. Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji hugged them lovingly. They clutched Guru Hargobind’s piri gatra. Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji had 2 kirpans – one for Miri and one for Piri. The Guru Sahib asked him to leave, but he held on with more force. Guru Hargobind Ji fell in love and promised that the time has not come yet. When the time comes, the swords will have to be wielded and lifted.

Mata Nanaki had two sons – Baba Atal Rai and Guru Teg Bahadur ji. Teg Bahadur Ji and Baba Atal Rai Ji had a lot of love for each other. He used to come in the Sangat together. The rest of the sons also enjoyed the sangat but Teg Bahadur ji used to sit behind them and as long as the Diwan prostrated, he would sit in humility. As they sit, they are dyed in amazement. They didn’t talk much to anyone. Mata Nanaki ji went to Guru Hargobind ji and complained that he did not speak much to anyone. The rest of the sangat also come to visit. Baba Gurditta ji, Bhai Ani Rai ji, Bhai Suraj Mall Ji’s nature was observed but the nature of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji was different from all these. They didn’t interact much with anyone and didn’t talk to anyone.

Whenever we see them, they remain silent. They don’t talk much with masands or sangat either. The words of Panth Prakash are-

“Keh  bolai boh dhaarai Mon

Jag bivhar na janeh kon”

Meaning they don’t talk to anyone in the world and don’t know anyone. If they don’t talk to anyone, how will they know each other? Guru Hargobind ji began to tell Mata Nanaki ji that he was not an ordinary child. This child’s interest is not like normal children’s. You say who knows. Mother, a son will be born in her house –

 “

Tej Prachand Tarand Khalkhand “

He will be such a warrior son that he will plant Guru Nanak’s flower garden in the world. The renunciation of Guru Teg Bahadur ji comes to the fore in his childhood, when his elder brother Baba Gurditta was married in 1625 AD. Everyone in the house gets ready and goes in nice clothes. The procession goes smoothly. Teg Bahadur ji also has beautiful clothes and beautiful ornaments. When Barat was so far away from Guru ka Mahal that at the age of 4 Guru Teg Bahadur Ji  noticed that a child, who was walking along the sidewalk, was wearing very little clothes and his clothes were torn which made him feel cold. Guru Teg Bahadur ji asked him why he did not wear nice clothes while walking with the procession. The child folded his hands and brought tears in his eyes and replied that my mother’s heart also wants me to get beautiful clothes but we don’t even have 2 meals to eat so how can I get beautiful clothes on my body. This was not heard from Guru Sahib. No step was taken beyond them.At the same time they took off their beautiful clothes and put them on the child and also took off their jewelry and put them on the child. The rest of the family was celebrating the wedding but Guru Teg Bahadur ji was celebrating by covering the nakedness of a poor child. When Guru Sahib returned home, Mata Nanaki Ji asked him, “Son, where are your beautiful clothes and jewels?” Guru Sahib Ji told Mata Ji that I saw a child without clothes. They didn’t even have money to eat. he had little clothes so that he was feeling cold. I did not see his nakedness. When the cloak of religion is to be taken off from India, India is to be stripped of its religion, then on that day Teg Bahadur Ji has to cover his nakedness by wearing the cloak of his body. Due to these things, the status of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji in the Sangat was very high. One day a mother came with her little son by name. She came and told Guru Teg Bahadur ji that he was her companion. Tell him not to eat jaggery. Teg Bahadur ji said that I will Does not say today.  You come a week later. A week later, the mother returned with her son and said that he had not stopped eating jaggery. Tell him not to eat jaggery. Guru Teg Bahadur ji began to say that veer, does not eat jaggery. The mother of the child began to say that if you had said so much, you would have said it before. Teg Bahadur ji started saying that I had eaten jaggery myself that day so how could I say. Guru Sahib spoke any word very carefully and thoughtfully. Now it is time to think about the teachings of Guru Teg Bahadur ji. So in the next series No. 4 we will talk about the education of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
