राग धनासरी महला ९ में श्री गुरु तेग बहादुर साहिब जी की वाणी

ੴ सतिगुरु प्रसादि ॥

धनासरी महला ९ ॥

काहे रे बन खोजन जाई ॥

सरब निवासी सदा अलेपा तोही संगि समाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

पुहप मधि जिउ बासु बसतु है मुकर माहि जैसे छाई ॥

तैसे ही हरि बसे निरंतरि घट ही खोजहु भाई ॥१॥

बाहरि भीतरि एको जानहु इहु गुर गिआनु बताई ॥

जन नानक बिनु आपा चीनै मिटै न भ्रम की काई ॥२॥१॥

(श्री गुरु ग्रंथ साहिब जी, अंग क्रमांक ६८४)

भावार्थ-

हे जिज्ञासु ! तुम) किस लिए वन में (प्रभु को) खोजने जाते हो? सर्वत्र निवास करने वाला और सदा निर्लिप्त रहने वाला प्रमु) तुम्हारे अंगसंग रहता है।१। रहाउ। फूल में जैसे सुगंधि बसती है और दर्पण में जैसे छाया रहती है. उसी तरह हरि निरंतर (हमारे भीतर) बस रहा है। (उसको) हे भाई ! शरीर के भीतर ही ढूंढो । १ । बाहर और भीतर एक मात्र (प्रभु को) ही व्याप्त समझो। यह भेद गुरु के ज्ञान में बताया गया है। नानक (का कथन है कि) अपने आप को समझे बिना, (मन से) भ्रम की काई/जाला नहीं मिटता ।२।१।

O seeker, why do you go into the forests in search of the Divine? The One who pervades everywhere and remains forever detached abides intimately with you. Just as fragrance dwells within a flower and a reflection abides in a mirror, so too does the Lord dwell constantly within us—O brother, seek Him within your own body. Know that the One alone permeates both the outer and the inner realms; this mystery is revealed through the Guru’s wisdom. Nanak declares that without understanding one’s own self, the moss of delusion is not removed from the mind.

साधी इहु जगु भरम भुलाना ॥

राम नाम का सिमरनु ‘छोडिआ माइआ हाथि बिकाना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

मात पिता भाई सुत बनिता ता कै रसि लपटाना ॥

जोबनु धनु प्रभता के मद मै अहिनिसि रहै दिवाना ॥१॥

दीन दइआल सदा दुख भंजन ता सिउ मनु न लगाना ॥

जन नानक कोटन मै किनहू गुरमुखि होइ पछाना ॥२॥२॥

भावार्थ-

हे साधु-जनों! यह जगत् (मायावी) भ्रम में भूला पड़ा है। (अतः इस ने) राम-नाम का स्मरण करना छोड़ दिया है और माया के हाथ बिका हुआ है।१। रहाउ। (यह जगत) माता, पिता, भाई, पुत्र और स्त्री के मोह-पाश में बंधा हुआ है। यौवन, धन और ऐश्वर्य के नशे में दिन रात दीवाना बना रहता है।१। दीनों पर दया करने वाले और दुःखों को खत्म करने वाले उस (प्रभु) से मन नहीं लगाया। दास नानक (का कथन है कि) करोड़ों में से किसी (विरले व्यक्ति) ने गुरु के उपदेश से (प्रभु को) पहचाना है।२।२।

O holy ones, this world stands lost in illusory delusion; it has abandoned remembrance of the Divine Name and has sold itself into the hands of Maya. Bound by the snares of attachment to mother, father, brother, children, and spouse, it remains intoxicated day and night by youth, wealth, and worldly power. It has not set its mind upon that Lord who is compassionate to the humble and the destroyer of sorrow. Servant Nanak declares that among millions, only a rare one recognizes the Divine through the Guru’s teaching.

तिह जोगी कउ जुगति न जानउ ॥

लोभ मोह माइआ ममता फुनि जिह घटि माहि पछानउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

पर निंदा उसतति नह जा कै कंचन लोह समानो ॥

हरख सोग ते रहै अतीता जोगी ताहि बखानो ॥१॥

चंचल मनु दह दिसि कउ धावत अचल जाहि ठहरानो ॥

कहु नानक इह बिधि को जो नरु मुकति ताहि तुम मानो ॥२॥३॥

(श्री गुरु ग्रंथ साहिब जी, अंग क्रमांक ६८५)

भावार्थ-

जिस (योगी) के हृदय में लोभ, माया का मोह और ममता देखते हो. (यह) समझो कि उस योगी को जीवन की (वास्तविक) मुक्ति का बोध नहीं है।१। रहाउ। जिस के (हृदय में) पराई निंदा और स्तुति नहीं है और जो सोने और लोहे को समान समझता है, खुशी और गमी से दूर रहता है. उस को ही (वास्तविक) योगी बताओ ।१। चंचल मन द दिशाओं में दौडता है। जिस ने (इस को) स्थिर करके टिका लिया है. नानक का कथन है कि इस प्रकार के मनुष्य को तुम मुक्त समझो ।२।३।

If you see greed, attachment to Maya, and possessiveness dwelling within the heart of a so-called yogi, know that such a yogi has not realized true liberation in life. One in whose heart there is neither slander nor praise, who regards gold and iron as equal, and who remains untouched by joy and sorrow—only such a one is to be called a true yogi. The restless mind runs in all directions; Nanak declares that whoever has steadied and anchored this mind is to be understood as truly liberated.

अब मै कउनु उपाउ करउ ॥

जिह बिधि मन को संसा चके भउ निधि पारि परउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥

जनमु पाइ कछु भलो न कीनो ता ते अधिक डरउ ॥

मन बच क्रम हरि गुन नही गाए यह जीअ सोच धरउ ॥१॥

गुरमति सुनि कछु गिआनु न उपजिओ पसु जिउ उदरु भरउ ॥

कहु नानक प्रभ बिरदु पछानउ तब हउ पतित तरउ ॥२॥४॥६॥६॥१३॥५८॥४॥६३॥

(हे प्रिय मित्रो!) अब मैं कौन सा उपाय करूं जिस ढंग से मन का संशय दूर हो जाए और भवसागर से पार हो जाऊं।१। रहाउ। (मैं ने मनुष्य) जन्म प्राप्त कर कोई भी भला (काम) नहीं किया, अतः बहुत भयभीत हूँ। (मैंने) मन, वचन और कर्म के द्वारा हरि के गुणों का गायन नहीं किया। यह बात मेरे हृदय में पड़ी है।१। गुरु का उपदेश/मति सुन कर (मेरे मन में) कुछ ज्ञान पैदा नहीं हुआ। (मैं) पशु के समान पेट भरता रहा। नानक का कथन है कि हे प्रभु! (तुम अपने) परम्परागत विरद को पहचानो, तब ही मुझ पतित का उद्धार हो सकता है।२।४।९।९।१३।५८।४।९३।

O dear friends, what path should I now take by which the doubts of my mind may be removed and I may cross beyond the ocean of existence? Though I have obtained this human birth, I have performed no truly virtuous deed, and therefore I am filled with fear; with mind, speech, and action I did not sing the praises of the Divine, and this burden weighs upon my heart. Even after hearing the Guru’s teaching, true understanding did not arise within me, and I lived only to fill my belly like an animal. Nanak declares: O Lord, recognize Your timeless way of compassion—only then can one as fallen as I be redeemed.
